Colorado - Black Canyons and black diamonds

After the relative flat and dry high desert, we headed west to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, one I've been wanting to visit for 7 years.  And wow, it was not disappointing!

Two thousand feet below us, the Gunnison River which created this amazing place.

Ranger Angela pointing out some features on a morning geology hike.
It was a long uphill hike to Green Mountain...and I look it!

The Painted Wall

South to Telluride - thanks Kelli and Chris for all the recommendations!  We LOVED it!!!

A couple of the local characters seen on the streets of Telluride.

A free gondola runs 7 a.m. to midnight and takes you 2000 ft to the top of the mountain.

Sampson, the official greeter at the top of the gondola
Susan and I agreed - no black diamond for us!

Just at the start of the Telluride Film Festival

Love their Face Down Brown

Telluride has a great local brewery as well as a coffee roaster, so we could take care of both our fixes!
